چکیده
The specificity of the reaction for amino sugars discovered by Elson & Morgan (1933) has been increased by several workers through knowledge of some of the intermediates involved. The interference by amino acids and glucose was overcome in different ways (Schloss, 1951; Immers & Vasseur, 1952; Cessi, 1952; Cessi & Piliego, 1960). The separation of a volatile fraction among the products of condensation of amino sugars with pentane-2,4-dione (acetylacetone) (Schloss, 1951), later identified as 2-methylpyrrole (Cornforth & Firth, 1958), led to a procedure (Cessi, 1952; Cessi & Piliego, 1960) by which unsubstituted amino sugars can be differentiated from their 3-derivatives, as Johansen, Marshall & Neuberger (1960) pointed out. This paper deals with the estimation of Dgalactosamine in the presence of D-glucosamine, a problem also studied by Tracey (1955) and other workers. The mechanism of the Elson-Morgan reaction is still obscure. Cornforth & Firth (1958) suggested that an intermediate (I):

Analysis of the Echinococcus granulosus Laminated Layer Carbohydrates by Lectin Blotting
Cystic hydatid disease is caused by cystic larval (metacestode) stages of Echinococcus granulosus. This parasite can potentially occur all over the world especially in Mediterranean and Middle East countries and some parts of Africa, Latin America and China which have major foci of human infections. The cyst wall of metacestodes consists of inner, middle and external layers. To date, little att...

The first enzyme of the pathway for uridine diphosphate N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (UDPAG) biosynthesis i.e. L-glutamine: D-fructose 6-P amidotransferase (E.C. 2.6.1.16) was purified 52-fold from human placenta using methanol fractionation and column chromatography on DEAE-Sephadex A-50. The enzyme showed optimal activity in a broad range of pH from 5.8 to 7.8 in both phosphate and cacodylate ...

Background: Although there have been many studies on the role of mosquitoes in malarial transmission, the biology and interaction of plasmodium with its host is still not completely known. The aim of this study was primarily to follow the sporogony cycle of Plasmodium vivax in Anopheles stephensi mysorensis and then to explore the inhibitory effects of certain carbohydrates on parasitic develop...
متن کاملThe determination of glucosamine and galactosamine in some glycoproteins by radioisotope dilution.
1. The principle of radioisotope dilution was applied on a semi-micro scale to the determination of glucosamine and galactosamine in some glycoproteins, such as immunoglobulins, a urinary glycoprotein and blood-group-specific substances. 2. The glycoprotein was hydrolysed in the presence of [1-(14)C]glucosamine or [1-(14)C]galactosamine or both. The amino sugars were made to react with naphthyl...
